General Requirements

Students who have completed their Bachelor’s degree (with at least 45% marks) from a recognized Institution can apply for admission to Master of computer Science (MCS). Master of Information Technology (MIT) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) - 72 credit hours spread over 4 semesters. However, eligibility for admission is specified as under:

(a)                Master of Computer Science {MCS} Two Years Degree Program: BA/B.Sc Program in any of the following: Math, Physics, Computer Science, Commerce, Statistics, Economics, and Bachelors of Engineering. Candidate must have at least 45%

(b)               Master of Information Technology {MIT} Two Years Degree Program: BA/B.Sc Program in any of the following: Business Administration, Math, Physics, Computer Science, Commerce, Statistics, Economics, and Bachelors of Engineering. Candidate must have at least 45% marks in the graduation degree.

(c)                Master of Business Administration {MBA} Two Years Degree Program:  Bachelor’s degree in any discipline with at least 45% marks in the graduation degree.

Project

Students are required to complete a project of 6 credit hours in the final year of their Master’s degree program. The choice of the final project is at the student’s discretion. However, consultation with the student advisor is compulsory. Students have to submit a detailed write-up of the project and in some cases may be required to give a presentation.

Tuition Fees and Expenses

Tuition fee rates are fixed and are independent of the number of courses being taught in one semester. Security, Admission and Registration fee are charged once at the start of the first semester. The remaining charges are payable quarterly. Security fee is refundable on completion of degree or in case of withdrawal from the University.

Tuition fee:                             Rs. 2100 per month, payable quarterly

The schedule for the payment of dues will be notified at the start of each semester. The fees will be deposited in the authorized bank branches by the date announced. If the candidate, once admitted in a degree program, enrolls himself/herself by depositing university dues and subsequently leaves the university under any circumstances, the university dues already deposited by him shall not be refunded (except security fee) in any case. Refund of tuition fee and other dues can be made to a student only if the University considers the student to be ineligible for the enrollment in a semester.

FEE PAYABLE AT THE TIME OF ADMISSION:

Fee payable at the time of admission Rs. 11,100/- (includes admission fee, registration fee, security and one month tuition fee).

Announcement of Selected Candidates

Candidates will be informed about their admission at their mailing address. The list of successful/selected candidates will be displayed on the VU web site (http://www.vu.edu.pk) on regularly basis from March 21-27, 2006 and will also be displayed at the relevant PVC’s along with the notification.

Orientation Program

The Virtual Campuses will arrange orientation course for admitted students from March 24-25, 2006 for a small fee. The participation of selected students is not obligatory but at their discretion. However, VU encourages its newly admitted students to attend the orientation program. This will include familiarization with computers, Operating Systems and the VU Learning Management System (LMS). Students will be handed over their admission package and their user identification nos. and passwords to the LMS during the orientation session.

Other Academic Programs

Virtual University of Pakistan offers BS (Computer Science), BS (Information Technology), BS (Business Administration), BS (Public Administration), BS (Commerce), BS (Accounting and Finance), BS (Mass Communications) and BS (Psychology) having duration of four years (eight semesters). Candidates who successfully obtain Diploma in Computer Science & Information Technology would be eligible to continue their studies in any of the above-mentioned BS Programs by taking the appropriate remaining courses.

Diploma in Computer Science & Information Technology having duration of one year (two semesters) is also offered. Admitted students would have facility to study at home or at Virtual Campuses with no difference in university dues.

Study at Home

The candidates interested in attending classes at home (provided they have access to TV, Computer and Internet facilities) should inform via email athome@vu.edu.pk preferably from their home by providing their name, application form number/ID number and father’s name. However, such candidates shall have to appear for their examinations at the VU nominated exam centre.

Change of Campus

Application for change of campus with justifications must be submitted in writing to the Registrar or e-mail to ar1@vu.edu.pk

Refund of Security Fee

If the candidate once admitted in a degree program, enrolls himself/herself by depositing University dues and subsequently leaves the University under any circumstances, then University dues already deposited by him/her shall not be refunded (except security fee of Rs. 5000/-) in any case. Application for cancellation of admission and refund of dues is to be submitted to the Registrar.

HOW TO APPLY FOR ADMISSION

Virtual University of Pakistan announces admissions (Session spring 2006) to

Postgraduate Courses: Master of Computer Science (MCS), Master of

Information Technology (MIT) and Master of Business Administration (MBA)

Administration (MBA) - 72 credit hours spread over 4 semesters with the facility

to Study at Virtual Campus or at home. Candidates can also apply online

Your admission package includes: admission application form, Information about Postgraduate Courses, Bank challan Form, list of bank branches and a   list of Virtual Campuses.

Instructions to fill up the admission form are as under:

  1. Please indicate only one Master Program using a tick mark (√).
  2. Indicate using a tick mark (√) whether you want to study at a Virtual Campus or at Home (to study at home, you must have your own PC and Internet connection).
  3. In case you choose Virtual Campus in (2) above, then enter the PVC Code of the Campus where you would like to study. The list of Virtual campuses in your city is attached along with their PVC Codes.
  4. Enter your full name in block letters exactly as in your matriculation/Intermediate/O’level certificate. 
  5. Enter your father’s name exactly as it appears on your matriculation/Intermediate certificate.
  6. Circle M if you are male, F if you are female.
  7. Enter your date of birth in day-month-year format. For example, enter December 25, 1985 as 25/12/1985.
  8. Enter your permanent mailing address in block letters.
  9. Enter your current mailing address in block letters if different from No.8 above. Make sure mailing address would be used for your admission/academic correspondence.
  10. Enter your area code and telephone number. For example, enter Lahore telephone number 9203114 as 042-9203114 (where 042 is area code for Lahore).
  11. Write your e-mail in block letters, if any.
  12. Write your nationality, for example Pakistani if you are from Pakistan.
  13. Write your new National Identity Card number.
  14. If father deceased then write name & address of your guardian with relationship.
  15. Enter the information about your academic record starting from matriculation, then Intermediate and finally Bachelor degree. Applicants for admission to Postgraduate Courses must have passed Bachelor with at least 45% marks. Details of admission eligibility have been mentioned under “Postgraduate Degree Program”.    
  16. Enter information only, if you were admitted previously at Virtual University of Pakistan.
  17. Please indicate using a tick (√) whether you deposited fee as Bank Draft or Bank Challan. If deposited as Bank Challan then mark the name of Bank (HBL=Habib Bank Ltd or BAF= Bank Alflah).

 INFORMATION ABOUT FEE DEPOSIT AND SUBMISSION OF ADMISSION FORM:

  1. Deposit Rs. 11, 100/- as charges of University dues (that include Rs. 3,000/- Admission Fee, Rs. 1000/- Registration Fee, Rs. 5,000/- Security Fee and Rs.2100/- Tuition Fee for one month) to the Bank Branch (see attached list of bank branches) close to your study centre on or before March 20, 2006.  
  2. Four copies of the bank challan have been attached with the admission package (two bank copies and one copy each for student and VU copy). Candidates are directed to attach 4th copy of bank Challan form with their filled admission form after fee deposit.
  3. Please put your signature on the admission Form and also acquire signature of your parent/Guardian on it. Affix recent passport-size photograph on the space provided in the admission application form. Finally attach the following documents with the admission application form:

(a)    4th copy of fee deposited bank Challan form.

(b)   One attested copy of your computerized National Identity Card (NIC).

(c)    Three recent passport size photographs in an envelope writing your admission form number on it.

(d)   One attested copy of Matriculation (or equivalent) exam marks sheet.

(e)    One attested copy of Intermediate (or equivalent) detailed marks sheet.

(f)     Three attested copies of Bachelor’s detailed marks sheet. 

  1. If you obtained your form from a Virtual Campus of VU, then please return the filled form to the Centre (PVC) you have selected on your form and obtain a receipt. You can also mail your filled admission form along with above-mentioned documents by courier service to the Registrar, Virtual University of Pakistan, M.A. Jinnah Campus, Defence Road, Off Raiwind Road, Lahore, Pakistan.

 NOTE: No application will be accepted after the last date published in National Press. Moreover, incomplete applications are liable to be rejected without any notice.

 INFORMATION AFTER SUBMISSION OF APPLICATION FORM:

1.      Candidates will be informed about their Master’s admission at their mailing address as well as at Virtual Campuses within a week upon receipt of application at VU. VU will also provide Student ID Number, Password and further information about orientation, course to be taken and class timings to the admitted candidate.

2.      Name of admitted candidates will be displayed on VU website (http://www.vu.edu.pk) immediately after mailing information as mentioned at Serial # 1 above.

3.      Orientation for newly admitted candidates at Virtual campuses will be on March 24-25, 2006 and its detail will be provided to admit students or can be obtained from the nearest Virtual Campus.

4.      Regular classes will commence on March 27, 2006 at respective Virtual Campuses of Virtual University of Pakistan.
